Ghanche, formerly known as the Khaplu Valley, derives its name from the Balti language, which means ‘the land of glaciers. There are numerous glaciers in this region, with the largest and most famous being the Siachen Glacier, covering an area of 47 miles. Ghanche is comprised of three sub-valleys: Hushe Valley, which hosts Mashabrum Peak and many other peaks; Saltoro Valley, the home of the Siachen Glacier; and Chorbat Valley, which borders India. Shigar
Shigar is the home of K2, Broad Peak, Gasherbrum I & II, and other peaks of the Karakoram range. The Biafo and Baltoro glaciers are also located in this valley.
